The Butterfly Academy is a health, self care & relational education organization based in NY’s Hudson Valley that’s dedicated to empowering kids and their parents around the realities of healthy relationships, diversity and body positivity with accurate information and age-appropriate honesty. The Butterfly Academy was recently founded by Lorelei “Lo” Sharkey, an AASECT-Certified Sex Educator and a seasoned sex-&-relationship writer who has, over the course of her 20-plus year career in the field, co-authored 8 books, penned columns for New York Magazine and The Guardian, written features for publications like Glamour and Men’s Journal, toured the country on behalf of NARAL Pro-Choice America, presented at colleges such as Colgate and Williams, been profiled in Time Magazine, and appeared on Oprah — all as an expert on the topic. Lo graduated with honors from Colgate University and successfully completed the graduate-level certification program at The Institute for Sexuality Education. She leads all Butterfly Academy workshops as both an educator and a parent. Dr. Elise Hagen, MD, is The Butterfly Academy’s dedicated volunteer health consultant.
